Hey, folks! Osnabrück is getting a facelift, and it all kicks off on March 17 with the revamp of the southern train station square. FYI, if you've got a bike parked in the construction zone, make sure to move it by Monday—if you don't, the city will stash it away until you sort out a pick-up appointment. Looking ahead, cyclists should be parking their vehicles at the bike station or side streets instead.

Why the big changes? The main goal is to create a safer, more pleasant, and wheelchair-friendly space for both pedestrians and cyclists in the area between the bus station and the complex containing the cinema, fast-food restaurant, and post office. Notably, they'll be setting up a bike boulevard to streamline access to the bike station and greening up around 300 square meters of space. Plus, there'll be a cracking water fountain for thirsty passengers!

But wait, there's more! A tactile wayfinding system—ya know, for the visually impaired—will pop up at bus stop 1 and the train station entrance, and Deutsche Bahn is jumping on board with their own version within the station building. To make way for all this goodness, bus stop 1 will be temporarily shut down from March 17 to around April 25. During that time, buses will be redirected to bus stop 2 on the median island, and those that usually depart from bus stop 2 will move to bus stop 5 facing the tracks. All other buses will carry on as normal.

Two years ago, they nabbed 183 bike racks to pave the way for the bike boulevard (temporarily marked with yellow stripes). Now, an additional 35 racks will be scrapped to reclaim space for new green areas. This will not only clear the paths but also help with heat development control during the sweltering summer months.

The redesign isn't just about the main square—they're also banning bikes from cluttering up the paths and attempting to create bike-free zones for pedestrians. For cyclists who prefer an alternative parking spot, free parking options will be available around the train station square.
