Penang's Budi95 Petrol Subsidy Scheme Launches Smoothly, Minimal Issues Reported
The Budi95 petrol subsidy scheme in Penang got off to a smooth start on its first full day. Despite a minor user error, the system performed well at most petrol stations checked. Out of around 200 petrol stations in Penang, the system worked efficiently at 15 stations. Only one complaint was reported, not due to any technical issue, but a user error. A consumer mistakenly replaced the pump nozzle before refuelling, leading to an unsubsidised transaction at the gas station. The scheme, which offers RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre, is open to eligible Malaysians with a valid driving licence and MyKad. The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) is responsible for its sale. To ensure compliance, random enforcement actions will be conducted at all gas stations. The Budi95 petrol subsidy scheme in Penang started successfully, with minimal issues. Monitoring will focus on preventing foreign-registered vehicles from purchasing RON95 and verifying MyKad ownership. The subsidised rate of RM1.99 per litre is now available at most gas stations in Penang.
