Power company Negros clarifies policy on bill deposits
Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) is making the transition from Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) more manageable for consumers, especially those with existing bill deposits.
As part of the transition, Negros Power is assisting eligible former Ceneco consumers in processing their bill deposit refunds. However, eligibility for a refund depends on Ceneco's evaluation of each account.
The refund process is governed by a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) between Ceneco and Negros Power, which authorises Negros Power to handle consumer concerns, including bill deposit refunds. This agreement aims to ensure a smooth transition for all parties involved.
For former Ceneco consumers seeking a refund, the process begins at Negros Power offices. The staff will guide them through the refund process, helping them fill out Ceneco's application forms and acting on their behalf to follow up with Ceneco.
Once approved, the refundable deposits are transferred directly to the consumers’ Negros Power accounts. It's important to note that not all consumers qualify automatically, as refunds depend on Ceneco's account evaluation.
The bill deposit, a mandatory and standard requirement for all Distribution Utilities (DUs) in the Philippines, as mandated by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), serves as a security measure to cover future electricity bills and ensure uninterrupted service.
For new consumers who applied for connection under Negros Power, they have already paid their bill deposit as part of the application and energization process.
Consumers are encouraged to visit the Negros Power office for guidance and assistance in the bill deposit refund process. The refund option for former Ceneco consumers with an existing bill deposit is exclusive to them.
The JVA grants Negros Power the right to follow up on all concerns of its consumers with Ceneco, including bill deposit refunds. Negros Power will coordinate with Ceneco on behalf of consumers in the bill deposit refund process.
In summary, former Ceneco consumers must visit Negros Power for assistance in claiming their refundable deposits, which are coordinated and approved by Ceneco, then credited to their new Negros Power accounts. The aim is to make the transition from Ceneco to Negros Power as seamless as possible for consumers.
