On August 20, Estonia commemorates the 34th anniversary of its Restoration of Independence, a national holiday. This year, the festivities include the annual Rose Garden reception, hosted by President Alar Karis and First Lady Sirje Karis at Kadriorg park.

The Rose Garden reception is a significant event, bringing together key figures involved in Estonia's independence restoration, as well as representatives from various sectors such as culture, education, science, sports, diplomacy, media, and business. The occasion symbolizes unity and the guardianship of the freedoms won.

This year's reception is part of the broader national observance of the Restoration of Independence Day. The event features the President addressing the nation and guests with a speech reflecting on national values such as freedom, education, culture, and civic responsibility. President Karis emphasized that Estonia’s story is one of freedom built on education and culture during his 2025 speech at the reception.

In addition to its commemorative role, the Rose Garden reception also fosters public engagement and celebration, accompanied by live music and broadcast by the national public broadcaster ERR. For those unable to attend, the event is being live-streamed on our Estonian-language news portal, and updates can be followed on Facebook and X.

The Rose Garden reception is a symbolic and unifying occasion that both honors Estonia's historical journey to independence and promotes core national values of freedom, culture, and civic participation under the stewardship of the presidency. This year's event promises to be a memorable celebration of Estonia's independence and the values it represents.
