Price increase schedule starting from 2026 - MVV price hike and altered tariffs
Starting next year, the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV) will expand to include the counties of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Mühldorf am Inn, Landshut, and the city of Landshut. This expansion will not affect the current fare increase starting January 1, 2026, as the MVV has agreed to an average fare increase of 3.9%. Here's a breakdown of the fare changes that passengers can expect:
Fare Increases
- Monthly and weekly passes, as well as group day tickets, will become more expensive. The exact increase varies depending on the ticket type.
- The price for a strip card on S-Bahn or U-Bahn in Munich will rise from €17.80 to €18.70.
- The price for group day tickets will also increase.
Fare Decreases
- In Zones 2 to 12, the price for single-ride tickets, day tickets, and strip cards will decrease. A single-ride ticket in Zone M will decrease by 10 cents to €4.10.
- Some tickets will remain the same or even become cheaper in Zones 2 to 12.
No Changes Due to Expansion
- The expansion of MVV will not affect the increase in the price for monthly and weekly passes, group day tickets, or a strip card on S-Bahn or U-Bahn in Munich.
- The inclusion of new areas will not alter the price for a strip card on S-Bahn or U-Bahn in Munich (€18.70).
- Passengers in Zones 2 to 12 will need only one strip instead of two.
- The expansion of MVV will not affect the decrease in prices for some tickets in Zones 2 to 12.
- The expansion of MVV will not affect the increase in the price for a single-ride ticket in Zone M (€4.20).
The leadership of the MVV remains with the existing MVV shareholders and managing organization, as the counties Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Mühldorf am Inn, the city of Landshut, and the county of Landshut join the MVV starting January 1, 2026. The MVV itself manages the integration and operation as decided by its shareholders.
It's important to note that the consent for displaying the video from Glomex does not affect the fare changes or the expansion of MVV.
Passengers are advised to stay updated on the fare changes and the integration process to ensure a smooth transition when the MVV expands next year.
