HCM CITY - Stepping Stone Towards a Mutual Economic Boom

In a lively meeting on Wednesday, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Mahmoud Thabit Kombo discussed strategic economic collaborations. The meeting took place during Kombo's first official visit to Việt Nam, marking the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2025).

PM Chính welcomed the Tanzanian minister, acknowledging that this visit serves as a symbol of the steadfast partnership between the two countries. With diplomatic relations dating back to February 14, 1965, the leader emphasized the profound appreciation for the unwavering support Tanzania has provided during Vietnam’s journey towards national independence and ongoing development.

The PM applauded the Tanzanian guests' attendance, articulating that their presence brought cheer and inspirational encouragement to the Party, the State, and the people of Việt Nam. In response, the minister expressed similar sentiments, expressing awe at the resilience and remarkable progress of Việt Nam.

Prioritizing economic cooperation, PM Chính proposed accelerating bilateral delegation exchanges to facilitate a more concrete working alliance. In an optimistic tone, he extended invitations for President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa to visit Việt Nam.

Furthermore, he encouraged Tanzania to fast-track the opening of its embassy in Việt Nam and voiced his belief in the benefits of negotiating and signing a free trade agreement (FTA). Additionally, he suggested focusing efforts on cooperation areas with immense potential, such as digital transformation, agriculture, fisheries, tourism, aviation, education and training, and cybersecurity.

Leaders from both countries also discussed the potential for investments in value-added agricultural industries, such as coffee, cotton, and cashews, as a means to transfer technical expertise and create employment opportunities for young Vietnamese entrepreneurs. Tanzania emphasized the need to leverage its strategic location as a gateway to East African markets[1][3][5].

In terms of defense and security, discussions touched on potential collaborations in mineral extraction and defense-security partnerships[4][5]. Both sides committed to boosting private-sector cooperation and increasing trade volume, with Tanzania's exports to Việt Nam already reaching $226 million[5].

Additionally, the possibility of enhanced training programs in agriculture and technology emerged as a means to equip Vietnamese youth with the necessary skills for successful business ventures[5]. By integrating their unique talents and expertise, these bilateral collaborations aim to foster long-lasting economic growth that benefits both nations.
