Project Advancement – Wind Farm Partnership Remains on Track

In the picturesque landscapes of Hesse, Germany, a new wind of change is blowing. The Fernewald Wind Park, a joint project by Lintas Green Energy GmbH and Land+Forst Renewable Energies GmbH, is set to take shape on the territories of the municipalities of Fernwald, Buseck, and Giessen.

This ambitious project is not just about generating clean electricity but also about strengthening regional value creation. The mayors of the three municipalities have made this clear, emphasising their commitment to local participation and regional development.

The wind park, upon completion, is expected to supply around 43,500 households with renewable electricity. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, and expert opinions are currently being finalised, with further implementation steps being prepared.

The application for approval for the construction of the wind park was submitted to the Giessen government presidency in June 2025. The LEA State Energy Agency of Hesse (LEA Hesse) is supporting the municipalities in this endeavour.

The site selection for the wind park prioritised minimising the use of valuable and partially damaged forest areas. Despite unavoidable impacts on the forest, efforts will be made to implement the project as gently as possible, using existing paths where available. The affected forest areas will be replanted as soon as possible after the completion of the wind park.

The wind park project is showcased in a new best practice film series by LEA Hesse, demonstrating successful local energy transition projects in Hesse. The series highlights the collaboration between the three municipalities in driving the energy transition forward at an equal level.

The operator company for the wind park is currently being established. Up to 70% of the shares will remain with the municipalities and regional partners, ensuring local control and benefits.

The Fernewald Wind Park is a shining example of intermunicipal cooperation, demonstrating that with collective efforts, a greener and more sustainable future can be achieved. As the project progresses, we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on Hesse and its communities.
