Quebec Temporarily Halts EV Incentive Program Due to Budget Constraints
Quebec's Government has temporarily halted the Roulez vert EV incentive program from February 1 to April 1, 2025, due to financial constraints. Environment Minister Benoit Charette has assured that the suspension is temporary and will resume post the 2025 budget announcement.
The unexpected pause has caused confusion among buyers awaiting vehicle deliveries, who may delay finalizing purchases until subsidies are reinstated. Despite the suspension, the federal $5,000 iZEV rebate remains available during this period.
Quebec's ambitious goal is to have 2 million EVs on the road by 2030, with 335,000 EVs already registered, representing 33% of Canada's total EV population. The Roulez vert program offered financial incentives of up to $7,000 for EV buyers and $600 for residential charging station installations. These incentives were set to gradually reduce from $7,000 to $2,000 by 2027, before the current suspension.
Quebec remains committed to its broader environmental goals, planning to ban the sale of new internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by 2035. The temporary suspension of the Roulez vert program is a setback for EV buyers, but the government aims to reinstate it after the 2025 budget announcement.
