Get Ready for Tram Chaos in Dresden!
listen up, folks, cause Dresden's public transport (DVB) is about to throw a wrench in your daily commute routines. Starting from Monday, November 9, there'll be some serious disruptions around Pirnaischer Platz that'll last until Sunday, November 16. They gotta replace two ancient, beaten-up switches on-site that've seen better days.
This mean ol' switch swap will cause detours for tram lines 1, 2, 4, 10, and 12. You won't be able to catch a ride at the "Hygienemuseum" halt, so better find an alternate spot.
But hey, it ain't all bad. The road traffic will take a hit too. From 9 am to 3 pm, they'll close the left lane on Grunaer Straße to give the workers enough wiggle room. The DVB has set the hours to keep disturbances during rush hour to a minimum—though it does mean the detours will last three extra days.
They're forking over almost 200,000 euros for these fixes.
Here's what each line's gonna look like:
Line 1: Will hustle and bustle between Comeniusplatz and Pirnaischer Platz, taking routes via Fetscherplatz, Sachsenallee, Bautzner-/Rothenburger Straße, Albertplatz, Carolaplatz, and Carolabrücke.
Lines 2 and 4: Will be all twisted up between Straßburger Platz and Postplatz, taking the roads via Lennéstraße, Lennéplatz, Hauptbahnhof Nord, and Dr.-Külz-Ring.
Line 10: Will shoot for a shorter route. Starting from Messe Dresden, it'll follow its usual path only up to Straßburger Platz and then merge with Line 12 to head for Striesen.
Line 12: Will get a split personality. In the east, the "12" will run from Striesen to Straßburger Platz before switching over to Line 10 to Messe Dresden. In the west, it'll roll from Leutewitz to Postplatz and park at Gleisschleife Webergasse.
If you're struggling to find updated information, flick an ear towards the official Dresden public transport authority (DVB) website or City of Dresden’s announcements. You can also check out local transit apps or customer service for more detailed schedules and alternate routing info. Stay on top of things, or you might miss that important ride!
In light of the planned maintenance on Dresden's tram lines, expect disruptions in the industry of public transportation, particularly in the finance aspect as large sums of money are being spent to replace aged switches. The closures and detours affecting tram lines 1, 2, 4, 10, and 12 also imply potential challenges in the broader transportation sector, as road traffic will be impacted as well.
