Railway electrification along the Neuss-Kaarst route is scheduled to be completed by 8th July.
Residents and businesses in several settlements, including Kaarster Bahnhof, Kaarst Mitte/Holzbüttgen, IKEA Kaarst, and the Eintrachtstraße settlement in Neuss, are set to experience construction noise as part of the Regiobahn GmbH infrastructure upgrade. The project, scheduled for several months in 2025, aims to modernize the railway network.
The construction noise disturbances are primarily expected during daytime on weekdays, with some Saturday work. The duration of these disturbances varies by location, ranging from one to three months. Residents and businesses in these areas will receive notifications ahead of particularly noisy days, and Regiobahn GmbH is taking measures to minimize noise by using modern equipment with noise suppression and installing noise barriers and protective sheeting where feasible.
At Kaarster Bahnhof, noise disturbances will occur mostly during the installation of track components and overhead lines, lasting approximately two to three months with intermittent peak noise days. The expected timeframe for this work is spring to early summer 2025. In Kaarst Mitte/Holzbüttgen, the focus is on signal system upgrades and platform renovations, resulting in about one to two months of moderate noise. This work is expected in early summer 2025.
In the vicinity of IKEA Kaarst, work will mainly involve track realignment and safety barrier installations, lasting roughly one month with occasional louder machinery use. This work is scheduled for mid-2025. The Eintrachtstraße settlement in Neuss will experience noise mainly due to earthworks and underground utilities work, lasting approximately one month. This work is expected in summer 2025.
It's important to note that not all residents in these areas will be affected by noise disturbances for the entire duration of the works. For the latest updated schedule or specific contact info for inquiries, residents are encouraged to check the official Regiobahn GmbH website or local municipality announcements for real-time updates.
Regiobahn GmbH apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the works and is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure a smooth and efficient project. The company is also conducting investigative work to identify potential unexploded ordnance and/or exclude hazardous areas. Due to planning-related reasons, some work may be shifted to nighttime hours, potentially causing noise disturbances for nearby residents.

In the process of modernizing the railway network, Regiobahn GmbH will also upgrade the public-transit system in Kaarst Mitte/Holzbüttgen, which may affect other industries such as retail in the area, given the focus on signal system upgrades and platform renovations. Additionally, the finance sector might experience disturbances due to the potential change in transportation routes, as construction work in various settlements could affect the ease of access to these places.
