Railway Enthusiasts Festival from 19th to 21st September: thrilling agenda for rail fanatics
The Allianz pro Schiene e.V. in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn (DB) is organizing a three-day event from 19th to 21st September 2025, inviting everyone to experience special insights into the world of railways in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia.
On this occasion, Leipzig Central Station will start steam train rides, while old locomotives open their doors at the museum track, and guided tours of the station are planned. The family festival in the Halle Train Formation Facility allows visitors to ride on a locomotive, visit the signal box, or observe maintenance work.
In Halle, DB InfraGO (Delitzscher Straße) offers an opportunity to learn about maintenance and modern signal box technology, with experts available to answer questions about starting out at DB.
The Thuringian Mountain Railway's Erlebnismuseum Maschinarium (Lichtenhain) will be open from 6:30 am to 8:00 pm on the 20th September, offering free admission and free rides for children. The museum showcases the heart of the mountain railway, including the engine house, drive system, motors, and brakes.
Erfurt Central Station will host a DB Job-World event, providing information for those interested in starting with DB.
The Erzgebirgsbahn in Saxony is running three different train sets on the Schwarzenberg-Annaberg-Buchholz Süd route at hourly intervals on the Day of the Rail. For the first time in many years, round trips are possible. The Erzgebirgsbahn's new training center and innovation room will also welcome visitors on this day.
Chemnitz Central Station will transform into a festival mile on the 20th September, celebrating "200 Years of Rail in Europe" with trains to touch, special trains, a railway flea market, and various events.
Visitors at DB InfraGO (Delitzscher Straße) in Halle can also learn about construction site tours, including a children's program with a construction site parcours and moving excavators. In Röblingen am See (Info Point Kleine Kesselstraße), there is a comprehensive information offer on the Regional Corridor Renovation Halle - Eichenberg project.
The Pirna Station in Saxony is celebrating its 150th anniversary on 20th September with guided tours, charity actions, entertainment, and information about DB training professions.
Lastly, the Leipzig-Connewitz training center in Leipzig offers insights into the diverse daily work of DB professions, including a simulation facility demonstrating how switches and signal box technology work.
