Recommendation for a plan on safeguarding employees from potential hazards stemming from digital communication platforms has been requested from the Commission, involving the creation of a new directive.
In a letter addressed to Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder, Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil has requested an update on the status of a law aimed at speeding up planning and approval procedures for infrastructure projects. The law, which is considered urgently needed, is a point of contention between the two ministers.
Klingbeil's letter, formal in tone with the greeting "Dear Sir", outlines the financial framework agreed upon by the Federal Government, including the allocation of a total of 500 billion euros in a debt-financed special fund for infrastructure and climate neutrality projects. Of this, 100 billion euros has been earmarked for investments in the infrastructure of the federal states, including road construction. However, detailed figures on the portion already utilized for road construction projects by 2029 are not explicitly provided.
The letter comes in response to the current media coverage of missing funds in the road sector and the need for more money for the new construction and expansion of motorways, as expressed by Schnieder in the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung". Klingbeil has emphasized the responsibility of Schnieder's department for the prioritization and allocation of the planned funds.
The Ministry of Transport has identified a deficit of approximately 15 billion euros for motorways and federal roads from 2026 to 2029. Due to the current financial planning, no release for numerous projects expected to receive building rights by 2029 can be granted.
In light of this, Klingbeil has demanded that Schnieder disclose how much of the budgeted funds for road projects have been spent. He has also requested an update on the status of the law aimed at speeding up planning and approval procedures for infrastructure projects.
The dispute over funds for motorway construction and expansion involves both Klingbeil and Schnieder, both members of the Federal Government. The German Press Agency has access to the letter sent by Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil to Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder regarding the financing of new motorway construction and expansion.
