Hey, let's dive into a hot topic in Cebu City!

Environmental advocate and newly-elected Mayor, Nestor Archival, recently stirred the pot with his pledges to revamp the city's parks and tackle plastic waste.

During a media interview on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, Archival voiced his concerns about the lackluster maintenance of the city's parks, particularly the Cebu City Eco-Park.

The park, spanning a whopping five acres, is set to receive a whopping PHP 120 million budget.

However, Archival raised eyebrows when he discovered funds allocated to the park were diverted to other projects without his knowledge.

He expressed his intentions to investigate the misuse of funds and seek assistance from the private sector.

"Let's be thrifty and conserve, considering the park is there for community enjoyment. There are certain animals to be seen by people, especially children," he stated.

He also suggested that lackluster maintenance would be the initial challenge, given the limited funds.

"Personally, I would rather we focus on low-maintenance solutions, rather than investing in expensive features we can't afford," he added.

As an ardent environmentalist, Archival sees the revamping of the Cebu City Eco-Park as a "proof of concept" aimed at winning public support for environmental issues.

Meanwhile, Archival also brought up the issue of plastic waste, vowing to introduce a ban on plastic bottles in City Hall and encourage employees to bring their reusable water bottles to work.

During his recent meeting, he was appalled by the amount of wasted plastic water bottles. "There's a lot of waste," he remarked, subtlety comparing the situation to a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

He warned, "In the future, if we don't address this, we may end up in a world like Mad Max. In the future, we will fight for water, and that's not good!"

While the search results offer scant information about these issues, Archival has demonstrated a progressive approach to tackling problems in Cebu City.

Make sure to stay tuned for more updates on this environmentally-conscious mayor!

Archival's goal is to investigate the misuse of funds allocated to the park and seek assistance from the private sector, aiming to be thrifty and conserve resources for the benefit of the community.

In addition to focusing on the Eco-Park, Archival also plans to introduce a ban on plastic bottles in City Hall and encourage employees to use reusable water bottles, addressing the issue of plastic waste and the potential long-term consequences, such as the resemblance of a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
