In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and security in the management of public funds, the State Administration Office in Erfurt, Thuringia, has started issuing payment cards for refugees at the initial reception facility in Suhl. This initiative is part of a statewide model for refugee payment cards, which was agreed upon by representatives of municipalities and the state at the beginning of June.

The initial reception center in Suhl, which is under the management of the State Administration Office in Erfurt, is one of the facilities that has faced capacity challenges. In October 2023, the center was completely full, leading to a freeze on admissions. The availability of places in such facilities can vary, and admission is subject to availability.

The State Administration Office in Thuringia plays a critical role in managing the reception and processing of asylum seekers. In addition to processing asylum applications, providing financial support, and coordinating support services, they are now responsible for issuing payment cards to refugees. The payment cards are seen as a means to use public funds more securely, transparently, and purposefully.

However, it's important to note that the districts and independent cities in Thuringia can choose whether to join the statewide model or take their own approach regarding these payment cards. There is no obligation for them to join the statewide model for the payment cards.

The payment card for refugees has been available in several Thuringian districts for some time. The distribution of these payment cards in Suhl began in late June, marking a significant step forward in the management of refugee support services in the region.

In the region, the distribution of payment cards for refugees, a move aimed at securing and streamlining the use of public funds in vocational training programs and general-news, has been expanded to include Suhl under the statewide model, following negotiations between municipalities and the State Administration Office in politics and finance. As theInitiative in Suhl, which offers vocational training, has faced capacity issues, it's essential for the industry to collaborate with the state in ensuring the successful implementation of this policy.
