Regensburg Entrepreneur Sentenced for Aiding Wage Evasion and Social Security Fraud

A Regensburg construction entrepreneur has been sentenced for aiding and abetting wage evasion and social security fraud. The defendant, who treated employees as self-employed to avoid contributions, received a ten-month prison sentence suspended on probation.

The case began with a tip from the Regensburg Trade Office about suspicious business registrations at the entrepreneur's address. Investigations revealed that the registrations were initiated by the defendant, and workers were paid hourly, indicating an employment relationship. The defendant confessed in court, expressing remorse.

The defendant evaded social security contributions totaling 1,006,288.03 euros between 2017 and 2021. The head of the Regensburg Customs Office, René Matschke, emphasized that such practices harm social security funds and give unfair advantages to dishonest businesses. The customs office, led by Matschke and Gerhard Pylipp, will continue to combat undeclared work consistently.
