Customs Audit Reveals Widespread Issues in Hairdressing and Cosmetics Industry
Last week, the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt conducted a regional special audit to combat undeclared work and illegal employment in the hairdressing and cosmetics industry. The audit, which took place in the regions of Schweinfurt, Würzburg, Bamberg, and Aschaffenburg, was carried out by 90 female and male officials from the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS).
The audit involved 79 inspected businesses, 166 surveyed individuals, and 17 investigations initiated on-site. The findings were concerning, with numerous deficiencies regarding mandatory notification and recording obligations discovered in the businesses.
In addition to these deficiencies, there were suspicions of withholding and misappropriation of wages in a total of 28 cases. Evidence of the non-payment of the statutory minimum wage of 12.82 euros was found in 16 cases.
The audit also uncovered indications of an unlawful receipt of state social benefits in two cases. Furthermore, there were suspicions of illegal employment of foreign workers in a total of 16 cases.
The audits are an important instrument for combating undeclared work and illegal employment in the industry. They are risk-oriented, with both random and full audits of all employees of an employer. The audits aim to maintain a high number of preventive audits in certain sectors to reduce the social acceptance of undeclared work and illegal employment.
The Financial Control Schwarzarbeit of the customs administration conducts both nationwide and regional focus audits with increased personnel deployment throughout the year. The search results do not provide the name of the head of the customs administration in Schweinfurt responsible for conducting the regional special audit.
In conclusion, the audit has revealed a number of issues that need to be addressed to ensure compliance with labour laws and social security regulations in the hairdressing and cosmetics industry. The customs administration will continue its efforts to combat undeclared work and illegal employment, working closely with businesses to promote fair and legal employment practices.
