Regional leader petitions Vladimir Putin for backing of airport development plan
The Omsk region is poised for significant growth as the Deputy Prime Minister, Marat Khusnullin, and the Minister of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, have pledged their support for investment projects in the region.
At the heart of this development is the Omsk-Fedorovka airport, a project originally initiated in 1982 but halted in the 1990s due to financial difficulties following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Now, plans are underway to revive and complete the airport, with an anticipated opening in 2028.
Regional head, Vitaly Khotchenko, has taken the lead in this revitalisation, preparing a letter requesting support for these investment projects. In a bid to attract over 8 billion rubles, Khotchenko plans to apply for the treasury infrastructure loan program.
The reopening of Omsk-Fedorovka Airport is part of a larger plan to modernise and expand regional air transportation capacity, catering to growing passenger demand and fostering economic development in the Omsk region.
In a recent development, President Vladimir Putin, in response to the governor's request, simply said "Fine". The total investment for various projects in the region is estimated to exceed 1 trillion rubles.
As these plans unfold, the Omsk region stands on the brink of a new era, promising increased connectivity, economic growth, and improved quality of life for its residents.
