Renovation of Hyundai Square Pedestrian Path Begins, Phase 3 Canceled
The long-awaited renovation of the pedestrian and cycle path between Hyundai Square and Rüsselsheim is finally underway. However, the third construction phase has been canceled, leading to a slight delay in the project's timeline.
The state road L 3040, a four-lane road with separate pedestrian and cycle paths on each side, is the focus of this €3.4 million project. The state of Hesse is covering the majority of the costs, with approximately €3.1 million, while the city of Rüsselsheim contributes around €300,000.
The planning company, Hessen Mobil Straßen- und Verkehrsmanagement, is responsible for the construction work. The project involves renewing around 1.2 kilometers of the eastern lane of L 3040 and its accompanying cycle paths. Despite some delays caused by additional work for drainage and supply lines installation at Bensheimer Street and Hyundai Square intersections, the entire work is still expected to be completed by early November.
Motorists are advised to follow the detour via Astheimer Street, Nauheimer Street, Bismarck Square, and Forsthaus Street back to Bensheimer Street during the construction period. The eastern bus stop and intersections of Bensheimer Street and Hyundai Square will also be rebuilt to be barrier-free as part of the project.
The current delay in paving does not impact the overall project completion. The renovation is expected to improve the safety and accessibility of the road for both vehicles and pedestrians. The state and city officials are working together to ensure the project is completed as soon as possible, with the state covering most of the costs.
