Riga's Bridge Maintenance Tender Terminated After Bids Soar
Riga's bridge maintenance tender has faced unexpected twists. After a re-tinder, bids skyrocketed, with the lowest offer soaring 43% higher. The tender committee has since terminated the process due to unjustified cost increases.
Initially, the tender was divided into four parts, with three lots already contracted. Two competitors entered the bid for the remaining bridge maintenance part but failed to meet the requirements. Following this, the municipality will organize an extraordinary negotiation procedure for routine maintenance after October 1.
In response to the urgent need for winter maintenance, Riga City Executive Director Jānis Lange has instructed to launch an emergency negotiation procedure with several tenderers. Tenders for emergency procedures must be submitted within five days, with the winning bidder carrying out maintenance work until a long-term contractor is identified.
The sudden increase in bids has led to the termination of the tender procedure. The municipality is now exploring alternative routes for bridge maintenance, including an extraordinary negotiation procedure and an emergency process for winter upkeep.
