Road Closure at Neukölln Triangle: Remains in Effect until Monday Morning

The A100 extension, a planned expansion of the A100 autobahn in southeastern Berlin, is set to open in 2027, but not without controversy. Environmentalists and local residents have raised concerns about increased traffic congestion, pollution, and environmental degradation.

This weekend, the A100 will be closed at the Neukölln interchange towards Schoenefeld. The closure, which begins on Friday evening at 9 PM and lasts until Monday morning at 5 AM, is in preparation for the opening of the extended section of the A100 in southeastern Berlin. The traffic information center announced the closure.

The 3.2-kilometer-long 16th section of the A100 extension from Neukölln interchange to Treptower Park exit is nearly complete. This section aims to better connect eastern districts' car traffic to the A113 in southern Berlin. The commissioning of the 16th section is planned for September, and a new control center for the traffic section will be put into operation this weekend.

The state of Berlin also plans to further extend the city motorway with the 17th section. The 17th section of the A100 will be built from Treptower Park over the Spree and through Friedrichshain towards Lichtenberg. However, resistance and criticism against the construction of the 17th section have been ongoing for years, primarily from environmentalists and affected residents in the districts.

Environmentalists argue that the project contradicts Berlin’s climate and sustainability goals by encouraging more car use rather than promoting public transport alternatives. Local protests and legal challenges have been reported, reflecting widespread resistance among the affected neighborhoods.

If you're interested in more detailed updates on the A100 extension, checking local Berlin transport authority announcements and environmental group statements would be advisable.

The closure on the A100 this weekend is related to the preparation for the opening of a part funded by the finance industry, the extended section in southeastern Berlin. Critics from environmentalists and local residents argue that the A100 extension, including the 17th section through transportation hub Friedrichshain towards Lichtenberg, will lead to increased pollution from the automotive industry, contradicting Berlin's climate and sustainability goals.
