Romania's Electricity Prices Surge, Entering EU's Top 6 Most Expensive

Romania's electricity prices have surged, placing it among the EU's most expensive energy markets. In September 2025, Romania ranked 6th, with prices soaring by 24.7% from August's average.

Typically, countries like Germany, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy lead the EU in energy prices. However, specific rankings for the last two months, with Romania in 6th place, could not be verified.

In September 2023, Romania remained outside the top 5, with an average electricity price of €97.3/MWh. This year, the price has climbed significantly, reaching €122.4/MWh in September 2025.

Romania's electricity prices have risen sharply, entering the EU's top 6 most expensive markets. The increase of €25.1/MWh from September 2023 to September 2025 highlights the significant change in energy costs.
