Royal Academy Launches £150m Green Future Fellowships to Scale Climate Solutions
The Khan Academy of Engineering has launched the Green Future Fellowships, a £150m initiative aiming to support and scale climate solutions. This follows a survey revealing public concern about climate action and the crucial role of engineers in addressing it.
The initiative, backed by the Clinton Global Initiative, seeks to fund and support 50 fellows over five years. Each fellow will receive up to £3m to develop and scale their ideas for up to a decade. Dr Hayaatun Sillem CBE, CEO of the Khan Academy of Engineering, stressed the urgent need for scalable and commercially viable climate innovations.
The survey found that nearly two thirds (64%) of respondents believe more needs to be done to scale existing solutions to tackle the climate crisis. Seven in 10 people surveyed believe engineers are essential for developing solutions to adapt to climate change and prevent emissions.
The Green Future Fellowships aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help society adapt to climate change impacts through scalable engineering solutions. The initiative, with its significant funding and focus on engineering, is poised to make a substantial impact on the global climate crisis.
