Rumours of a Shutdown at Dangote Refinery Dismissed
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Africa's largest single-train petroleum refinery, has confirmed that it is currently fully operational with no shutdowns or suspensions reported. This assurance comes following a wave of rumours suggesting otherwise.
Contrary to the speculations, the refinery is actively reducing petrol prices and expanding its fuel distribution nationwide starting August 15, 2025. In addition, the company has announced plans to deploy 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas-powered trucks for distribution.
The Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Anthony Chiejina, has debunked reports suggesting a halt in truck loading or production. He reaffirmed the refinery's commitment to supplying over 40 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily and steady volumes of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel).
The intermittent sale of Residual Catalytic Oil (RCO) by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is part of its normal operations. The refinery employs predictive and preventive maintenance protocols to ensure smooth operations, minimising the need for unplanned shutdowns.
Recent developments also confirm that the refinery is playing a significant role in stabilising Nigeria's fuel prices amid broader economic challenges. The company meets international quality standards for refined products.
In a recent statement, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery accused "unscrupulous and unpatriotic individuals" of seeking to undermine the nation's energy independence for selfish reasons, including the importation of substandard fuels under false pretences. The refinery has challenged these rumour sponsors to prove their claims by placing bulk orders for up to 40 million litres of PMS daily and 15 million litres of AGO daily, for the next 90 days.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has not sought a ban on fuel imports or oil marketers as of the latest information. It continues to supply steady volumes of fuel, contributing significantly to Nigeria's energy sector and economy.
