Ruto Appoints Nine New Diplomats, Fills Key Home Posts
President William Ruto has made several diplomatic and administrative appointments, with nine new ambassadors, high commissioners, and consuls-general taking up posts abroad. Key roles at home have also been filled, including the Registrar of Political Parties and the chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).
In diplomatic news, Agatha Wanjiku Wahome has been appointed as assistant registrar for a six-year term. Meanwhile, Henry Wambuma, Jayne Jepkorir, and Judy Nkumiri have been named consuls-general to the UAE and Goma, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Catherine Kirumba Karemu takes up the post of High Commissioner to Tanzania, with Maurice Odhiambo replacing her in London. The new High Commissioner of Kenya to Turkey is H.E. Robinson Njeru Githae. Joseph Musyoka, Edwin Afande, Lucy Kiruthu, and Abdirashid Salat Abdille have been appointed to represent Kenya in Saudi Arabia, Austria, Thailand, and Indonesia respectively. Florence Bore is the new High Commissioner to Namibia, while Antony Muchiri will serve as Kenya's ambassador to Turkey.
At home, Claris Awuor Ogangah has been appointed as chairperson of the KNCHR for a six-year term, taking over from Sophia Sitati who had been serving in an acting capacity since July. The post of Registrar of Political Parties fell vacant after Anne Nderitu's appointment to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. President Ruto has since appointed John Cox Lorionokou to fill this role for a six-year term.
These appointments, following parliamentary approval, aim to strengthen Kenya's diplomatic presence and maintain effective governance at home. The new appointees bring diverse skills and experiences to their respective roles, promising a robust and productive tenure.
