Safaricom to disperses Sh48 billion in dividends
Safaricom Breaks New Ground, Surpassing Sh1 Trillion Market Capitalisation
Safaricom, the region's most valuable listed entity, has made a significant stride in its financial journey. As of June 30, 2025, the company's market capitalisation crossed the Sh1 trillion mark, a testament to its robust growth and resilience.
Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom Group chief executive, made this announcement, also highlighting that the company's total revenue for the financial year ended March 31, 2025, surpassed $3 billion (Sh387 billion). This impressive figure represents a significant leap from previous years.
The company's financial success is not limited to revenue growth. Safaricom's share price has also seen a substantial rise, with a 68.7% increase compared to last year. This upward trend reflects the faith investors have in the company's future prospects.
In terms of dividends, Safaricom has maintained a consistent payout for the last three years. Shareholders approved a final dividend of Sh0.65 per share, payable around August 31, 2025, following the Annual General Meeting. This final dividend, combined with the interim dividend of Sh0.55 per share paid earlier in the year, brings the total dividend for the 2025 financial year to KSh 48.08 billion, or KSh 1.20 per share.
The consistent dividend payout, despite expansion costs including operations in Ethiopia and forex challenges there, is a testament to Safaricom's resilience. The Birr depreciation following the introduction of forex regime reforms in Ethiopia also had an impact on Safaricom's operations.
In addition to these financial milestones, the company's board directors, Edward Okaro, Rita Kavashe, and James Wambugu, were re-elected for another term. This continuity in leadership is expected to provide stability and strategic direction as Safaricom navigates future challenges and opportunities.
As Safaricom continues to grow and innovate, it remains a beacon of success in the Kenyan and regional business landscape. The company's commitment to delivering value to its shareholders, customers, and the wider community is evident in its consistent performance and dedication to sustainable growth.
