Saudi Arabia's Jazan Region to Get 12 New Sewage Plants by 2028
Saudi Arabia's water infrastructure is set to expand with the Jazan Small Sewage Treatment Plants (SSTP) Project. Alkhorayef Water and Power Technologies has been chosen as the preferred bidder by the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) for this pioneering project, which combines sewage treatment and collection networks under a single private sector-led framework.
The project, to be implemented under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model, involves the development of 12 SSTP with a total treatment capacity of approximately 74,700 cubic meters per day. It also includes the construction of main Collection Networks (CN) extending about 166 kilometers. The Commercial Operation Date (COD) is expected in Q4 2028, marking the start of a 25-year concession period.
SWPC's commitment to encouraging private sector participation is evident in this project. It aims to enhance services and support development in villages and towns across the Jazan region. The project also promotes local content, with a minimum of 60% during the construction phase. Moreover, it seeks to maximize the reuse of treated wastewater for multiple purposes, reducing environmental impact and improving public health and quality of life.
The Jazan SSTP Project, the first of its kind in the Kingdom, is set to transform water management in the region. With Alkhorayef Water and Power Technologies at the helm, the project promises to deliver efficient sewage treatment and collection, contributing to Saudi Arabia's sustainable development goals.
