A disposal service company's luck ran dry after discovering close to $700,000 cash in a house clearance job, as per a court ruling. They refused payment, arguing a cunning contract clause, but the Cologne Regional Court had other ideas. That clause? Caput.

The bereft business made a plea for 100 grand and a "finder's fee" following their cash-rich home cleanup in Bavaria. But the curtain came crumbling down when the Cologne Regional Court denied their claim.

Starting their journey as a disposal company in Bavaria, the plaintiff was assigned to clear an apartment by the defendant. Amidst the clutter, a mountain of cash worth over $700,000, tucked inside diaper packs, surfaced. Jewelry and spare change amounting to around $30,000 adorned the scene too.

However, the Cologne Regional Court deemed this condition invalid for explicitly taking advantage of the client. In their view, it was far-fetched to presume the client implicitly agreed to surrender cash and priceless belongings worth several hundred thousands.

Moreover, no justified claim for a finder's fee emerged since the plaintiff didn't help locate a lost object, the court ruled in its early May verdict—yet to be finalized.

The community policy of the Cologne Regional Court invalidated the contractual clause used by the disposal company, allowing them to keep the $700k cash found during employment. In this industry, such a financially significant dispute between business and client can have far-reaching consequences.
