Sovereign Housing Gets £9m Boost for 1,000 Home Retrofit Project
Sovereign Housing Association has received a £9m boost from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) to kickstart a major retrofit project. The aim is to transform 1,000 homes as part of their £22.5m improvement strategy, with the ultimate goal of decarbonising all 61,000 homes by 2050.
The retrofit measures will include wall insulation, heat pumps, battery storage, solar panels, and 'smart' home controls. These upgrades aim to deliver warm, energy-efficient homes, reduce carbon emissions, tackle fuel poverty, and support green job growth. Sovereign has started meeting with customers to begin the project. Each home will be individually assessed, and a 'passport' will be created to record the specific retrofit measures needed for each home to achieve net zero.
With the SHDF funding, Sovereign is set to transform the first 1,000 homes. This is a significant step towards their 2050 goal of decarbonising all 61,000 homes. The project will not only make homes warmer and more efficient but also create green jobs and help combat fuel poverty.
