Starbucks to Open New Store in Interlaken Amid Global Review
Starbucks is planning to expand its Swiss presence with a new store in Interlaken, set to open in early 2026. This comes despite the company's ongoing review of its international branch network, which may lead to some store closures in the country.
The American coffee chain opened five new stores in Switzerland in 2025 and currently operates around 57 coffee shops in the country. Despite this, Starbucks is conducting a large-scale review of its international network, aiming to redirect offerings to more profitable locations. Stores with insufficient customer traffic or poor long-term economic prospects may face closure, although the number of affected stores and employees is yet to be determined.
In contrast, another US-American chain, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), has set an ambitious target to expand its Swiss presence from the current 16 locations to 200. This expansion plan highlights the potential of the Swiss market, which Starbucks also recognises by planning its new Interlaken store.
While Starbucks prepares to open a new store in Interlaken, the future of some of its existing Swiss locations remains uncertain due to the ongoing review. However, the company's commitment to the Swiss market is clear, with plans to continue operating in the country alongside its expansion into Interlaken.
