Strengthened self-assuredness within power domains
The Landshut district in Germany is already recognized as a "maker region" due to the settlement of an electrolyzer, which generates green hydrogen. This distinction is set to be further solidified with the establishment of the Water Hydrogen Transfer and Application Center (WHiZ).
During a visit to the district office on July 25, 2025, Dr. Reinhard Saller, the current CEO of Niederbayern Forum e. V., provided an overview of the WHiZ's current status. The center, planned to be located in close proximity to the electrolyzer in Pfeffenhausen, aims to integrate green hydrogen technology into everyday life.
Dr. Saller believes that the WHiZ is a potential step towards positioning the Landshut district, and by extension, Niederbayern, further as a "maker region". He expressed his conviction that Niederbayern has a maker mentality in universities, crafts, and industry.
The Landshut district, like any other region, faces challenges, particularly in infrastructure development. Landrat Peter Dreier, the district's administrative head, emphasized the need for cooperation and unity in Niederbayern to overcome these challenges. He mentioned several measures that are strengthening the region, including the hospital merger, the establishment of a joint transport association, joining the MVV, and a joint regional management.
Landrat Dreier agrees with Dr. Saller's idea and approach. He also highlighted the competition between the Landshut district and other regions and districts, even within Niederbayern, as a driving force for progress.
Economic Referent Ludwig Goetz was also present during the visit and provided an overview of the current status of the WTAZ settlement. The settlement of the electrolyzer in Pfeffenhausen has already brought significant economic benefits to the district, and the establishment of the WHiZ is expected to further boost these benefits.
In the face of this exciting development, the Landshut district is poised to take a significant step forward in its journey towards becoming a leading "maker region". The cooperation between local authorities and the Niederbayern Forum e. V., under the leadership of Dr. Reinhard Saller, is a testament to the district's commitment to a sustainable and innovative future.
