Verdi Announces Three-Day Warning Strike in Karlsruhe's Retail and Wholesale Sectors

Verdi, the service sector union, has announced a three-day warning strike in retail and wholesale sectors in Karlsruhe and surrounding areas. The strike is set to take place from Friday and is being referred to as a "hot autumn in retail" by Verdi.

The strike is part of current wage negotiations and affects several companies, including Kaufland branches in Karlsruhe (Am Mühlkanal and Hohwiesenweg), two supermarkets in Pforzheim, Primark Karlsruhe, Sport-Scheck Karlsruhe, Metro Gastro Bruchsal, the dm distribution center in Waghaeusel, IKEA Karlsruhe, and H&M Karlsruhe.

The union is demanding a 15% increase in wages and salaries in retail and a 13% increase in wholesale, along with a doubling of the social allowance in retail. Union secretary Robin Weller stated that it's not Verdi blocking the wage negotiations, but the HDE and thus the employers' side.

The central strike day for the Mittelbaden-Nordschwarzwald district is planned for Friday in Karlsruhe. The demonstration will start at the Europaplatz at 9:00 AM. A one-hour rally will also take place at the Verdi house on Ruppurer Street at 10:30 AM.

It is important to note that as of August 2025, there is no specific information available about an ongoing Verdi strike in Karlsruhe's retail and wholesale sectors or current wage negotiation status directly related to these sectors. However, strikes in airport services by Verdi, including security workers at Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden airport, have been reported recently.

The impact on affected companies is not yet clear, as no strike in retail or wholesale by Verdi is documented in Karlsruhe. Any disruptions, if they occur, are likely to be limited to the strike days and may not significantly impact the operations of these companies.
