String of Defeats for Manchester United Continues after Sixth Successive Loss
Manchester United Reports Financial Results and Future Plans for 2025-26 Season
Manchester United has released its financial results and future plans for the upcoming 2025-26 season, following a challenging year that saw the club's worst-ever Premier League season.
The club's revenue for the 2024-25 season was £666.5m, a 0.7% increase from the previous year. However, the reduction in revenue is attributed to the club's poor on-field performance, which saw them fail to qualify for any European competition.
Despite the setbacks, United's CEO Omar Berrada stated that the club is emerging from a period of change with a streamlined organization. The wage bill was reduced by £51.5m due to cost-cutting measures, and the club completed a £50m upgrade of their training ground on time and budget for the 2025-26 season.
The cost of redundancies, including head coach Erik ten Hag and sporting director Dan Ashworth, was £36.6m. However, the club's total losses since 2019-20 are £391m, and for the 2024-25 season, Manchester United reported a net loss of £33m.
Non-current borrowings for the 2025-26 season remain at $650m, which converted to £471.9m. This represents a £39m improvement due to exchange rate fluctuations. However, United's current borrowings increased from £35.6m to £165.1m for the 2025-26 season.
The club's commercial business remains strong, delivering appealing products and experiences for fans and best-in-class value to partners. A new sponsorship deal with Snapdragon drove a 10% increase in commercial income for the 2025-26 season. Matchday revenue for the 2025-26 season increased due to the club's run to the Europa League final.
However, broadcast revenues for the 2025-26 season are expected to fall by 22% due to the club's poor on-field performance. Manchester United is forecasting a slight reduction in revenue for the 2025-26 season.
Planning continues for a proposed new stadium at Old Trafford, but no further details have been disclosed. Sir Jim Ratcliffe implemented staff cuts during the season, although the full benefits are yet to be realized.
Despite the challenges, United's record revenues generated during the 2024-25 season demonstrate the club's resilience. The club is optimistic about the future and is focused on returning to the top of English football.
