Südostbayernbahn Invests €25M in Modernizing Pfarrkirchen-Passau Railway Line

The Südostbayernbahn (SOB) is investing heavily in modernizing the railway line between Pfarrkirchen and Passau. The project, costing around 25 million euros, involves upgrading several stations and improving safety along the route.

The works include renewing all tracks in Pocking, replacing six switches, and installing a new electronic signal box. The old mechanical signal box, dating back to 1937, is being replaced with a modern one. Similar upgrades are happening in Bad Birnbach, where tracks are being extended, a switch replaced, and a new electronic signal box installed. In Fürstenzell, two switches are being replaced and a large railway bridge is being renovated.

The SOB is also focusing on safety, renewing equipment at nine level crossings and performing cable work and minor maintenance. The company DB InfraGO is carrying out these modernization measures. Due to the construction, train traffic between Passau and Pfarrkirchen is suspended, and a bus replacement service has been set up until November 23.

The modernization of the railway line between Pfarrkirchen and Passau aims to make the rail infrastructure future-proof. With these upgrades, the SOB is ensuring safer and more efficient train travel in the region. Commuters are advised to use the provided bus replacement service during the construction period.
