Supporting Financial Aid of $1.4 Million Granted to Small Businesses Affected by Construction in San Antonio
San Antonio Launches $1.4 Million Grant Program to Aid Small Businesses Affected by City Construction
The City of San Antonio has announced the launch of a new grant program aimed at supporting small businesses impacted by city-led construction projects. The program, presented by the city's Economic Development Department, includes three separate grants: the Stabilization Construction Grant, the Mitigation Construction Grant, and the Accelerate Recovery Grant.
Starting from May 1, businesses can apply for the Stabilization Construction Grant and the Accelerate Recovery Grant. The applications for the Mitigation Construction Grant will open on June 2.
The Stabilization Construction Grant, worth $1 million, offers up to $35,000 to eligible businesses along South Alamo and within the Zona Cultural. To qualify, businesses must demonstrate net revenue losses from the past year. An estimated 266 businesses could benefit from this funding.
The Mitigation Construction Grant, with a total of $80,000 allocated, provides grants of $2,000 to up to 40 businesses. This grant targets businesses preparing for the Marbach Road Streets and Drainage Project.
The Accelerate Recovery Grant, with $120,000 in funding, offers $5,000 grants for up to 24 businesses. This grant supports businesses along Broadway Street and Bulverde Road where construction was recently completed. Improvements could include painting, signage, or seating upgrades.
The Accelerate Recovery Grant also offers $5,000 grants for up to 24 businesses, similar to the funding provided by the Mitigation Construction Grant.
City data indicates that past construction-related grants have improved small business survival rates, particularly in the food and accommodation sectors. The new grant program is part of a larger initiative by the City of San Antonio to support small businesses impacted by municipal construction projects.
The grant program is not limited to one area. The Stabilization Construction Grant is available for businesses along South Alamo, and the Accelerate Recovery Grant supports businesses along Broadway Street and Bulverde Road.
The applications for the Stabilization and Recovery Grants can be made starting from May 15, 2025, following the City Council's approval of the $4 billion stadium financing project on that date. The total allocation for the grant program is $1.4 million.
In conclusion, the City of San Antonio is taking significant steps to help small businesses affected by city construction projects. The new grant program offers various grants to support businesses in making necessary improvements, improving their chances of survival, particularly in the food and accommodation sectors. Businesses are encouraged to apply for the grants as they become available.
