Taiwan's Formosa 4 Wind Farm Gets Offshore Substation EPC Contract

A significant step towards Taiwan's renewable energy goals has been taken with the awarding of an EPC contract for the offshore substation of the Formosa 4 wind farm. The consortium of Semco Maritime and PTSC Mechanical & Construction (PTSC M&C) will lead the project, set for completion by the end of 2027.

Upon completion, the Formosa 4 wind farm is expected to generate enough clean energy to power approximately 500,000 households annually. This substantial contribution to Taiwan's energy mix is a testament to the country's commitment to renewable energy.

The consortium's scope of work includes the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the offshore substation's jacket and topside. PTSC M&C will oversee the jacket EPC scope, managing the procurement of topside equipment, fabrication of the topside, and yard work in Vung Tau, Vietnam. Semco Maritime will handle the engineering, procurement, and commissioning of the main MV/HV electrical systems and auxiliary platform systems. Both companies will collaborate on the construction of these systems for the Formosa 4 offshore wind farm substation.

DEME will transport and install the offshore substation at the site off the coast of Miaoli County. This is the consortium's third OSS project contracted in Taiwan, following the successful delivery of the Hai Long OSS project and the ongoing Feng Miao OSS project.

The Formosa 4 wind farm's offshore substation is set to play a pivotal role in Taiwan's renewable energy landscape. With a scheduled delivery by the end of 2027, it is expected to significantly boost the country's clean energy production, powering hundreds of thousands of households annually. The consortium's expertise and proven track record in similar projects ensure a successful completion of this crucial project.
