Tata Motors Tops Indian Car Sales in September 2025 With 47% YOY Growth
Tata Motors has emerged as the top-selling carmaker in India for September 2025, outpacing Maruti Suzuki with a remarkable 47% year-on-year growth. The company sold 60,907 units, while Maruti Suzuki witnessed a sales decline of over 8% with 1,89,665 units.
Tata Motors' success can be attributed to strong SUV demand, particularly for the Nexon model. The company also achieved an all-time monthly high in export sales, with a 52.2% jump to 42,204 units. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki's total sales increased 5% month-on-month from August 2025 and 12.9% from June 2025. However, its domestic sales declined by 8.3% year-on-year to 1,35,711 units due to logistical constraints. Despite this, Maruti Suzuki delivered a record 1,65,000 units during the first eight days of the Navratri festive period in 2025. The utility vehicle segment recorded a 20.9% decline to 48,695 units for Maruti Suzuki. Other notable performers include Hyundai with a 10% year-on-year growth and Mahindra with a 16% increase in sales.
Tata Motors' impressive growth in September 2025, driven by SUV demand and export sales, has propelled it to the top of the Indian car market, surpassing Maruti Suzuki. Despite logistical challenges, Maruti Suzuki still managed to deliver record sales during the festive season. Hyundai and Mahindra also reported strong growth, indicating a competitive market landscape.
