Expansion of raw materials sourcing in South Lower Saxony by the company - The business broadens its quest for crude resources in the southern region of Lower Saxony.

Get ready to dig a little deeper as we uncover some juicy details about Anglo American Exploration Germany's intentions to explore the rich resources hidden beneath Southern Lower Saxony. The toll-free zone for resource discovery just got a lot bigger, with the company expanding their search to include salts in addition to the usual suspects - metals.

The Lower Saxony Mining Authority, LBEG, has greenlit this grand expansion, and the company, no strangers to the mining scene in nearby Thuringia, will now be probing for rock and potash salts, among other minerals.

But wait, where exactly are they planning to dig up these hidden treasures? Welcome to Leine-Salt, a 1,961 square kilometer territory nestled in the western Harz foreland. This area, located south of Hildesheim and Salzgitter, and north of Göttingen, is a veritable treasure trove, boasting towns like Einbeck, Seesen, and Herzberg am Harz.

You must be wondering, what's so special about Leine-Salt? Well, Anglo American has already been scouring this land for deposits of copper, lead, gold, and silver, and they've decided it's time to expand their search. In fact, a georadar-equipped aircraft will take off from Hildesheim to help with the search.

If you thought that was all, think again! The permit for the salt and metal search is valid until the end of 2028. And, just like the metal search, they're gunning for the resource hunt in Thuringia as well. If they hit the jackpot in Thuringia, they'll need another permit for full-scale extraction.

Now, why are they so keen on mining in Europe? A spokesperson for the British parent company revealed that resources like copper are crucial for the energy transition and economic development. With this in mind, Anglo American is trying to create a safe and sustainable mining landscape across Europe.

However, the quest for hidden riches doesn't end at Southern Lower Saxony or Thuringia. Scientists have been rummaging through the Upper Harz to test a new measurement technology, and according to preliminary findings, there might yet be more rare ores lurking in the Harz underground.

Mining in the Harz goes back over 3,000 years, and at one point, it was one of the largest and oldest mining regions in Europe. From silver and copper to lead and zinc, the Harz has seen it all. Mining eventually tapered off in the 19th and 20th centuries, with the last mine closing its doors in 2007.

Now, let's toss the past aside and focus on the future. Anglo American's ongoing endeavors in Southern Lower Saxony and beyond will undoubtedly shape the mining landscape in Germany and beyond. Stay tuned for more updates!
