The fourth generation of the iconic Toyota Century, first introduced in 1967, was recently celebrated at the Tahara Plant in Tahara City, Aichi Prefecture, in December. This special edition luxury vehicle represents a significant evolution that upholds the legacy of Japanese aesthetics and hospitality, blending traditional craftsmanship with advanced modern technology.

Chairman Akio Toyoda shared insights from his development process, mentioning the lessons he learned from Honorary Chairman Shoichiro Toyoda during the celebration. Yoshikazu Tanaka, who worked hand-in-hand with Chairman Akio Toyoda, played a crucial role in heading up the development of the new Century.

The new Century is a symbol of Japanese luxury, offering a spacious and serene cabin designed as a sanctuary on wheels. Rear doors now optionally slide for ease of access and privacy, while rear passenger amenities elevate comfort to first-class airline levels. Advanced suspension systems and power-closed doors ensure a vibration-free, silent ride, reinforcing a peaceful travel environment.

Modern technological integration includes a level two plus driver assistance system, featuring lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control, 360° cameras, and a world-class infotainment system. The vehicle also boasts an eco-conscious hybrid powertrain, reflecting Toyota’s commitment to sustainability while maintaining high performance suitable for the ultra-luxury segment.

The fourth generation Century is built on Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, with a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine paired with an e-CVT transmission to deliver a smooth yet powerful drive. Exclusive design cues, such as the “C” motif in its grill and a two-tone body, pay homage to previous generations, maintaining a strong visual connection to its heritage.

The development of the new Century incorporates ideals worked into it by Chairman Akio Toyoda, who spoke about his experiences as a master passenger during the celebration. A dealer Meister system was established for sales of the new Century, aiming to promote original activities and a better understanding of the Century brand.

Two staff members were followed who trained to clear the strict requirements to become Meisters, demonstrating the commitment to excellence and attention to detail synonymous with the Century. The first car off the production line of the new Century was celebrated, marking the beginning of a new era for this legendary vehicle.

The new Century carries on a legacy of Japanese aesthetics built on a spirit of hospitality and expert skill, while creating a new vision of the world. It continues to be a car made for passengers as important as the Imperial Family, maintaining its prestigious and culturally resonant status as a flagship for Toyota.
