Marking 30 years of service, Rouen's much-loved tramway celebrated its anniversary on December 17, 2024. A staple of Normandy's public transport system, this iconic infrastructure has significantly impacted the region by providing seamless connections between the Right and Left banks and propelling the movement towards eco-friendly commuting.[4]

Originating in 1994, the Rouen tramway sparked a revolution in urban mobility.[4] Known as the "metro" to many, despite its actual designation as a tramway, it's now a well-earned nickname for five of the network's 31 stations that run underground.[2]

Evolving with time, the tramway has undergone modernization, improved accessibility, and expanded its network.[4] To commemorate its milestone, a series of engaging events were planned. At the Gare station and Boulingrin terminus, as well as in the company's premises, a historical fresco was unveiled, tracing the tramway's fascinating journey from inception to the present.[4]

As a special treat, the Astuce Network shared captivating archives, incredible footage of the very first runs, intriguing anecdotes, and interviews with dedicated employees who have served the tramway.[4] Lastly, employees came together to celebrate with a festive gathering and received a commemorative brochure and miniature tram models to assemble, reminiscing the collective legacy of this remarkable story.[4]

To those unaware, it's worth mentioning that despite being known as a "metro" locally, it's actually a tramway! The choice of name stems from its underground sections, although it functions primarily as a tram system.[2]

Fun fact: Prior to the 1994 tramway, there was a tramway in Rouen that left a bitter taste in the memories of its citizens. When the tram was reintroduced, they decided against using the original "tramway" name, ultimately settling on the nickname "metro."[4]

In recognition of its significant contribution to public transport in Rouen, the finance sector collaborated to fund the anniversary celebration of the city's beloved tramway. The celebration also highlighted the tramway's role in promoting sustainable transportation within the industry, such as在 Rouen 市 перевозках, which aligns with the global push towards eco-friendly transportation solutions.
