Prepare for Major Training Disruptions on the Regensburg-Ingolstadt Line in Summer 2025
Brace yourselves, rail enthusiasts! If you're planning a journey between Regensburg and Ingolstadt next summer, you'll want to buckle up for some significant train line disruptions courtesy of DB InfraGO AG. From July through September, be ready for cancellations and diversions on line RB 17.
Why so much hassle, you might ask? The closure of the Danube bridge at Sinzing (closing to rail traffic from 3 July to 2 September) is just one piece of this construction puzzle. Work will also take place between Sinzing and Matting during the same period, while the Abensberg station will be undergoing a barrier-free rebuild, causing further disruptions during these months.
Here's a breakdown of what each month entails:
July- The line between Neustadt an der Donau and Regensburg Hauptbahnhof will be shut down from 3 July to 31 July, with buses serving as the main mode of transport.
August- From 31 July to 2 September, the section between Sinzing and Regensburg Hauptbahnhof will be out of commission, also with buses stepping in to fill the gap.- From 29 August to 1 September, train services between Neustadt and Regensburg will be disrupted once more, with replacement buses running during this period.
But wait, there's more! Night-time full closures with bus services will take place on three occasions too:
- 31 July to 1 August - The train service between Regensburg and Ingolstadt will be suspended in the wee hours (9 PM to 5 AM).
- 13 August - Another closure will impact the section between Regensburg and Neustadt (9 PM to 5 AM).
- 28 to 29 August - Night-time closures will strike again between Regensburg and Ingolstadt (9 PM to 5 AM both days).
During the closure periods, buses will be operating as a replacement service. However, keep in mind that Regensburg-Prufening station won't be included in these services. Some morning and afternoon services, though, will stop at the Regensburger city bus stops "Goethestrasse" and "Taxistrasse" instead. Just remember that bus stops may not always be directly located at the stations, and buses might take longer than trains, potentially resulting in missed connections.
So, what are the alternatives if disruptions occur? Bus services like FlixBus or regional options could present a more flexible and budget-friendly alternative to trains. Taxi or private car services could be another choice for door-to-door transport, though they may be more costly. Cycling or walking are viable options for shorter distances in the affected areas, especially for disruptions that are localized.
