Trams Resume Service on Wuhlheide Bridge Once More - Trams back in service once more.
Streetcars Resume Service on Wuhlheide Line After Infrastructure Inspection
Berlin, Germany - After a thorough inspection, the first trams resumed operations along the Wuhlheide streetcar line in Berlin early on [today's date]. The Berlin Transportation Authority (BVG) announced the resumption of service, stating that the initial phase will consist of a shuttle service connecting Blockdammweg and S-Bahn station Schoeneweide.
According to a BVG spokesperson, the gradual return of trams went smoothly. Currently, detours for other streetcar lines remain in effect as information systems, duty schedules, and timetables undergo necessary adjustments for stable operation.
Following the inspection, experts ensured the tracks, overhead lines, and associated infrastructure were secure for the streetcar's return. Pedestrians and cyclists can now also utilize the Treskowallee on Edisonstraße, albeit with traffic controllers monitoring the area to ensure smooth traffic flow.
The ongoing demolition of Wuhlheide Bridge is the reason behind the streetcar line's closure. Concerns over the bridge's potential collapse were identified during routine inspections. Construction on the bridge demolition began on Saturday, leading to significant disruptions in both road and rail traffic.
The first relief for motor vehicle traffic is planned for June 6, 2025, depending on construction progress and weather conditions. Six of the nine demolition fields have been completed so far, with the entire construction site set to be completed by June 27, 2025, at the latest.
While regular traffic operations are resuming around the affected area, the future of the Wuhlheide Bridge remains uncertain until new infrastructure can replace the demolished bridge. A detailed timeline for the reopening of the bridge for motor vehicle traffic has not been provided, and it is expected that it may take some time before traffic can return to normal in the area.

The Berlin Transportation Authority (BVG), in collaboration with industry experts, is developing an updated community policy and employment policies to ensure the smooth operation of streetcar services like the one resuming on the Wuhlheide Line. This includes examining finance and transportation aspects for long-term planning and sustainable infrastructure management.
In the meantime, the gradual resumption of service on the Wuhlheide Line also highlights the necessity for continuous industry-wide safety checks and compliance with established policies, contributing to the overall well-being of the community in Berlin.
