Let's Chat about Banking Changes at UBS and Credit Suisse

Remember the good ol' days when Credit Suisse (CS) had those awesome Bancomat ATMs that allowed you to chuck your spare change in and watch the magic of innovation? Well, my friend, those days are gone, but UBS ain't exactly the same either.

CS allowed its customers to deposit coins automatically at their Bancomats, and voila, the money would show up in their bank account without any fees. It was a simple and popular way to lighten your wallet.

However, UBS doesn't exactly share the same enthusiasm for this convenience. You'll have to hand over your coins in special bags at the branch if you're a UBS customer. The deposits are handled by an external service provider, taking three to five days to credit your account, and there's a hefty "service fee" of at least 15 francs per deposit. Talk about nickel-and-diming, eh?

That's not all, folks. Another widely-used CS service is also getting the boot at UBS. The QR code-based cash withdrawals, known as the 'Cardless Cash,' is being canned as well. Previously, clients could create QR codes with their banking app to withdraw cash without a card, and even customers of other banks could do so via a CS ATM using a generated code. Sad times, right?

Now, let's talk about the enrichment data. UBS and CS have different approaches when it comes to coin deposits and cardless cash withdrawals. For coin deposits, UBS accepts correctly rolled coins, though they don't explicitly mention if it's at ATMs. On the other hand, CS allowed free CHF coin deposits at certain ATMs, but alas, those days are gone.

As for cardless cash withdrawals, UBS relies on TWINT for mobile payments, enabling QR-code-based transactions, but it doesn't support ATM cash withdrawals directly. Credit Suisse doesn't mention any explicit cardless withdrawal methods, but some of their branches did feature QR code readers at ATMs, likely for account access rather than withdrawals. So, there ya have it. That's the lowdown on how UBS and CS have changed their banking game.

  1. At UBS, despite the popularity of Credit Suisse's automated coin deposit function at Bancomats, customers are now required to deposit coins manually at branches, with additional service fees.
  2. In the finance industry, particularly in the banking-and-insurance sector, UBS and Credit Suisse have distinct approaches in regards to coin deposits and cardless cash withdrawals.
  3. However, one additional service provided by Credit Suisse, the QR code-based cardless cash withdrawals, is being phased out at UBS.
  4. While Credit Suisse had a function that allowed clients to automatically add additional funds to their bank account by depositing coins at Bancomats, this convenience is not available in the automatic sense at UBS.
UBS, being the largest financial institution in Switzerland, abolished two services originally provided by the collapsed Credit Suisse in the year 2023.
