UK Adults Demand More Climate Action as CiTTi Awards Honour Sustainable City Planning
The third annual CiTTi Awards, honouring achievements in sustainable city planning, will take place in London on 26 November 2024. Meanwhile, a significant majority of UK adults urge more action to scale climate solutions, with engineers seen as key players.
A recent survey revealed that nearly two thirds of UK adults believe more needs to be done to scale existing climate solutions. Seven in 10 respondents agreed that engineers are crucial for developing adaptations to climate change and reducing emissions.
Dr Hayaatun Sillem CBE, CEO of the Royal Academy of Engineering, stressed the urgency to develop and deploy scalable climate innovations. In response, the academy launched the Green Future Fellowships, promising £150m in awards over the next five years. The first 50 fellows, each receiving up to £3m to develop and scale their projects for up to a decade, will be announced soon.
The CiTTi Awards will celebrate sustainable city planning innovations, while the Green Future Fellowships aim to fund and support 50 fellows over five years. These initiatives reflect the UK's commitment to tackling the climate crisis through scalable engineering solutions.
