Ukraine Unveils RK-360L: A Powerful New Long-Range Missile

Ukraine has unveiled its latest military asset, the RK-360L, a long-range cruise missile. This new weapon, developed by state-owned Ukrspetsexport, boasts significant improvements over its predecessor, the Neptune missile.

The RK-360L is a substantial upgrade in size and capability. It measures 6 meters in length and has a body diameter of 50 centimeters, compared to the Neptune's 3.5 meters and 38 centimeters respectively. Its range has been extended to an impressive 1,000 kilometers, a significant leap from the Neptune's 280-kilometer range.

The missile has been enhanced for both land and maritime targets. It retains its ability to engage moving objects at sea and now incorporates features for long-range operations over land. These include low-altitude flight, pre-programmed routes, and precision strikes on fixed targets. Its warhead weight has been increased to 260 kilograms, up from the original 150 kilograms.

The Neptune missile family, which includes the RK-360L, first gained international attention after being used to sink Russia's Black Sea flagship, the Moskva. Since then, the Ukrainian Navy has used Neptune missiles to strike Russian military targets, including the Elektrodetal factory in Karachev, Bryansk region.

The RK-360L, with its enhanced size, range, and capabilities, is set to bolster Ukraine's military prowess. Its ability to strike both land and maritime targets at extended ranges will provide a significant strategic advantage. The missile's successful deployment will depend on various factors, including operational conditions and Russia's response.
