University of Pennsylvania Launches R-TRIP: A New Hub for Transportation Innovation

The University of Pennsylvania has launched a new transportation hub, the Richards Transportation Initiative at Penn (R-TRIP). Led by Leslie Richards, former CEO of PennDOT and SEPTA, and now Professor of Practice at the Stuart Weitzman School of Design, R-TRIP aims to bridge academic research with real-world transportation solutions.

R-TRIP is based at the Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR) and is advised by Megan Ryerson, UPS Foundation Professor and chair of the Department of City and Regional Planning. The initiative seeks to foster innovation and address practical transportation needs through collaborative research and partnerships. Leslie Richards, drawing from her extensive experience in transportation leadership, guides R-TRIP towards connecting academia with industry and policy-making.

R-TRIP's mission is to drive progress in transportation by integrating academic expertise with on-the-ground challenges. The initiative encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and welcomes input from students, faculty, and external stakeholders.

The Richards Transportation Initiative at Penn (R-TRIP) has been established to serve as a dynamic hub for transportation research and innovation. Led by Leslie Richards and advised by Megan Ryerson, R-TRIP is poised to make a significant impact on the field by connecting academic insights with practical transportation needs.
