Update on the incident: Fire in a food manufacturing facility in Elmshorn, attended by firefighters and the THW (Technical Rescue Unit)

Last night, a fire broke out around 11:30 p.m. in a pellet press at a food processing plant in Elmshorn, operated by "Hela Gewürzwerk Hermann Laue GmbH". The initial fire was in a pellet press used for pressing production residues from the manufacture of oat flakes into pellets.

The fire department, along with 20 firefighters from the voluntary fire departments of Elmshorn and Seester, were swiftly on the scene. After extensive and personnel-intensive extinguishing work throughout the night, the fire in the pellet press was successfully put out.

However, during a follow-up inspection, a new fire was discovered in a 60-cubic-meter silo. Investigations revealed that this new fire was caused by fine particles from the initial fire entering the silo through the ventilation system and igniting grain dust.

The recovery of production residues can only begin after a special device is built and the extinguishing work is completed. The affected company is currently building this special device for the removal and extinguishing of the material from the silo.

The Kreisfeuerwehrverband Pinneberg, the local fire department, is overseeing the operations and can be contacted for inquiries. Their press spokesman is Sebastian Kimstädt, and his contact information is:

The extinguishing work is expected to take several more hours. The Kreisfeuerwehrverband Pinneberg will provide updates as the situation develops.
