Volkswagen's successful ID.3 electric vehicle models are now eligible for a £1,500 government subsidy
The UK government's Electric Car Grant has extended its coverage to include the Volkswagen ID.3, marking the first Volkswagen model to become eligible for the grant. This move supports the company's efforts in promoting sustainable mobility and making all-electric motoring more accessible.
Eligibility Criteria for the Grant
To qualify for the grant, the car must cost less than £37,000 (manufacturer's recommended retail price) for the base model. Additionally, the vehicle must meet strict technical and sustainability standards associated with Volkswagen’s commitment to environmental targets, such as using sustainable materials and renewable energy in manufacturing.
The grant applies to retail customers, including both cash purchases and PCP finance agreements. Orders must be placed within specific time frames to qualify for manufacturer-backed grants that align with government support.
Covered ID.3 Models
The grant covers the following ID.3 variants:
- ID.3 Pure Essential 52 kWh (170 PS)
- ID.3 Pure Match 52 kWh (170 PS)
- ID.3 Pro Essential 59 kWh (204 PS)
- ID.3 Pro 59 kWh (204 PS)
- ID.3 Pro Match 59 kWh (204 PS)
- ID.3 Pro S Essential 79 kWh (204 PS)
- ID.3 Pro S 79 kWh (204 PS)
- ID.3 Pro S Match 79 kWh (204 PS)
Exceptions and Other Models
The sportier ID.3 GTX variant is not included in the grant due to its higher price and more powerful motors, making it ineligible. Similarly, the hot VZ model of the Cupra Born is not covered by the government grant.
Skoda's Elroq and Enyaq models, like the ID.4, must meet strict technical and sustainability standards set by the Government to be eligible for the grant. Other all-electric ID cars from Volkswagen are expected to become eligible for the government grant in the next few weeks.
Pricing and Volkswagen's Commitment
The price of the ID.3 models covered by the government grant ranges from £29,360 to an undisclosed amount for the higher-end variants. Volkswagen offers a "Grant Guarantee" scheme for the ID.4, providing customers £1,500 off until the official grant is in effect.
Rod McLeod, Director of Volkswagen UK, stated that the company is working hard to increase the pace of electrification and make all-electric motoring accessible to a broader base of buyers. The government grant is a significant step in achieving this goal, making electric vehicles more affordable for a wider range of consumers.
With the UK government's Electric Car Grant now covering the Volkswagen ID.3, it is evident that the company's commitment to sustainable mobility is being recognized. The grant marks an opportunity for those opting for PCP finance agreements or cash purchases, as retail customers, to acquire eligible ID.3 models at a discounted price, particularly the Pure Essential, Pro Essential, and Pro S variants. Technology's integration in these models, combined with their adherence to stringent environmental targets, potentially sets a new standard for lifestyle and finance choices that prioritize sustainability.
