Watu Credit Teams Up to Launch Kenya's First Electric Bikes

Watu Credit has teamed up with Arc Ride and GOGO Electric to develop electric bikes tailored for Kenyan roads. This move aligns with Kenya's Electric Mobility Draft Policy, which aims to promote electric vehicles (EVs) and phase out conventional fuel cars.

Kenya's Road and Transport Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, heads the task force drafting this policy. It aims to introduce EVs across various transport sectors, with initiatives like green number plates for EVs and setting up charging infrastructure.

Watu Credit has previously partnered with companies like Opibus and Ampersand to support the production and distribution of electric motorcycles. The company has committed to funding the purchase of over 500,000 electric motorbikes by 2030, investing over $9.8 million in the process. To facilitate this transition, Watu Credit plans to establish a network of battery-swapping stations for electric motorbikes.

Watu Credit's partnership with Arc Ride and GOGO Electric, along with their commitment to fund electric motorbike purchases and establish battery-swapping stations, demonstrates a significant step towards Kenya's goal of promoting electric vehicles and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
