In a bid to improve road safety and ensure regulatory compliance for commercial vehicles, the North Rhine-Westphalia Police conducted a comprehensive traffic control operation across the state. This operation, focusing on commercial traffic, saw intensive policing efforts at various control points throughout the region.

During the operation, a total of 591 trucks were inspected. The results revealed several violations, with 58 instances of improper cargo securing, 127 instances of speeding, 178 cases of following distance violations, and 56 instances of general vehicle defects. These findings underscore the necessity of such operations in maintaining traffic safety and enforcing legal standards.

Three drivers were found to be under the influence of intoxicants, and their licenses were seized. Furthermore, 7 drivers were found to be in breach of working hours regulations, and it is presumed that appropriate action was taken against them.

The operation was not limited to the Düsseldorf Police Presidency. Colleagues from eleven district police authorities joined forces, supported by Customs, the Federal Logistics and Goods Transport Office, and local communities. The coordinated action at nine control points, including locations such as Wuppertal, Essen, and Duisburg, signifies a significant enforcement effort.

The operation's success is reflected in the words of Police Director Reiner Schiffer, who expressed satisfaction with the day's activities. He emphasised that the police will continue to carry out such controls regularly to further enhance road safety and prevent accidents.

These types of operations generally focus on preventing accidents, reducing traffic violations by commercial vehicles, and ensuring these vehicles meet safety criteria under transport regulations. The police's commitment to road safety is evident in their ongoing efforts to deter unsafe practices and raise awareness among commercial drivers about compliance requirements.
