Yakutia holds the top position for forest revenue earnings within the Far Eastern Federal District.

In the vast expanse of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), forests cover half of its territory, playing a significant role in the regional economy. The latest figures reveal a 3.8% increase in forest revenues compared to the previous year, amounting to 3.09 billion rubles contributed to the federal budget.

Yakutia leads the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD) in forestry revenue, accounting for over a quarter of all forestry revenues in the region. The main source of these revenues is the rental of forest land, which accounts for an impressive 98% of all earnings. Three-quarters of rental payments in Yakutia come from areas used for mineral exploration and extraction.

The leading organization in Russia for designing and implementing forestry tasks and overseeing the increase of the forest fund in Yakutia is Roslesinform, Russia's leading state forest inventory organization. Roslesinform is responsible for forest management tasks such as state forest inventory, forest planning and design, forest restoration, and land cadastre of forest fund lands in Yakutia.

The increased revenues from Yakutia's forests have been allocated towards various initiatives. Caring for forest cultures, expanding programs for forest restoration, and seed stock formation in Yakutia's forests are all supported by these funds. Additionally, the purchasing of forestry and fire-fighting equipment has been facilitated by the increased revenues.

The expansion of these initiatives is not limited to Yakutia alone. The increased revenues from the FEFD, of which Yakutia is a significant contributor, have helped the region contribute over 11.5 billion rubles to the federal budget in 2023, a 3% increase from 2022.

The regional budget of Yakutia received an additional 56.9 million rubles, and the local budget received 7.6 million rubles in 2023. However, no new information about the total revenue generated from forest use in Yakutia or the FEFD was provided.

The second-largest source of revenue in Yakutia's forestry sector is rental payments for linear infrastructure construction. Despite no specific details about the distribution of revenues between the regional and local budgets, it is clear that the forestry sector plays a crucial role in bolstering the economy of Yakutia and the FEFD.
